June 21st might be the 1st day of summer on the calendar, and the longest day of the year. Here at The Cottages of Carmel we used this date to honor people with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Heartland Hospice RN, Sonia Morrison lead our residents in a health lecture. They discussed the stages and changes you might see when one is going through Alzheimer’s or dementia. Sonia also shared prevention tips and simple changes to help put off Alzheimer’s or dementia by years. Exercise, diet, socializing, going on excursions, and brain games, such as chess and crossword puzzles keep our minds active. At The Cottages of Carmel we incorporate these fundamentals into our programming.
It seems everyone knows someone that has been affected with the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia. After the lecture friends, families and even staff wrote honor cards to support and remember love ones with Alzheimer’s.
