Today was the day that The Cottages of Carmel and Watermark Retirement Communities had the honor of presenting Kamori Rogers and Kyra Rogers, who are sisters and also The Cottages of Carmel’s very first Watermark Kids with checks that will enable them to expand their educational and personal horizons.
Watermark for Kids is a non-profit organization created by Watermark Retirement Communities to help financially underserved youth. Kids submit applications describing what would make them thrive and Watermark for Kids provides the financial support to fund as many applications as possible. This financial support comes from donations from Watermark Retirement Communities, fundraisers, residents and voluntary payroll deductions by Watermark associates.
Kamori has a love for art and design and wants to become a Graphic Art Designer. This special computer will do digital design for clothing, greeting cards, signs, you name it she will design it. Kamori says, “this computer will make my dreams and goals reachable”.
In Kyra own words, “Being a Watermark Kid will help my life and help me grow to be a better person”. Kyra wants to take Karate and Martial Arts, “It will make me a better listener and teach me self-discipline”.
Both young ladies, mother, and grandmothers were very appreciative. Each of the family members including Kamori and Kyra gave a very nice thank you speech.
We presented the young ladies with flowers, recognition certificates and their checks. The residents applauded and it was happy ending for our morning activities.
